Walter "Lee" Greenway was born November 17, 1920 in Hamlin, Texas to Lyda Pearl (McClaran) and James Carl Greenway, and passed away of heart failure in Torrance, California on February 7, 2006. He attended Hardin-Williams College in Abilene, Texas. Ineligible for the draft in WWII he went to the shipyards in Washington State, where he was a welder on various ships for the war. He then worked on the Atomic Energy Plant in Richland, Washington. In 1946 he came to California to visit his sister and remained. Lee continued working in pipeline construction and local refineries doing x-ray welds on petroleum related pipelines. He developed macular degeneration and retired in 1982. He spent a number of years as an Assistant Boy Scout Leader. In the late 1960's he became a Charter Member of the International Chili Society, an organization that helps raise millions of dollars for various charities. Until his death, Lee remained active in this organization serving as a Director of the Western Regional Chili Cookoff, as well as a member of the society's Arrangement Committee. When not involved in chili cookoffs, he was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball Team. Predeceasing him in death were sisters, Elva and Mildred; brothers, J.D. and Carl F. Lee leaves his wife of over 48 years, Ann; and sons, Richard and Dale of Los Angeles; grandson, David Quinn and great-grandson, Eric Quinn of Landsdale, PA; nephew, Dr. L. Don Greenway (Ann); grand-nephews, John (Suzanne); James (Virginia); grand-niece, Jenifer Greenway and John and Suzanne's children, Taylor, Thomas and Ashleigh of Austin, TX. Services held at Green Hills Memorial Chapel on Thursday, February, 16th, 2006 at 11:00am with interment to follow.
