Thomas, Olive and their three children, Edna, Willaford and James, arrived in The Free State of Coahuila and Texas in 1835. Thomas petitioned the Mexican government to be admitted as a colonist in the Joseph Vehlein colony. His request was approved and he received title to a league of land (4,428.40 acres) located and surveyed in present day Angelina Co.
