Russell W. Parkin, age 75, beloved husband and father, died peacefully at his home with his family by his side, on Sunday, June 12, 2011.

He was born on April 4, 1936, in Mazomanie, the son of Archie and Kathryn (Sullivan) Parkin. Russell was married on June 6, 1959, to the former Wynona Neefe Pletzer. Russell served in the United States Army and was a member of the Spring Green American Legion Post 253 and the Operating Engineers Union. Russ was an uncomplicated man who loved his family, a good cup of coffee and the open road.

Survivors include his wife, Wynona Parkin of Spring Green; a son, Duane Parkin of Spring Green; five daughters, Monica Hamm of Madison, Jean (Clay) Porter of Spring Green, Susan (Gerard) Gundlach of Spring Green, Victoria (Rick) Lane of Lodi, and Cynthia Pletcher of Madison; 13 grandchildren, Brittany Parkin, Steven Hamm (Emily Koch), Joseph Hamm, Hillary (Tony) Sweere, Clay (Julie) Porter, Meghan Gundlach (Richard Jordan), Allison (Daniel) Bindl, Christopher Lane, Rebecca (Luca) Peragine, Beau (Jessie) Lane, Melissa (Christoffer) Isaksson, Rachel (Landon) Breunig and Aaron Pletcher; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray Parkin of Middleton, and Archie Parkin of Mazomanie; a sister, Marcella (John) Newell of Belleville; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Kathryn Parkin; a brother, John Parkin; a son-in-law, Steve Hamm; and a great-grandson, Brennan Sweere.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at 3 p.m. at the RICHARDSON-STAFFORD FUNERAL HOME in Spring Green. The Rev. Craig Peach will officiate with burial in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Spring Green American Legion Post No. 253. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
