Rhode Island Phenix Pawtuxet Valley Gleaner, Friday, August 17th, 1900

Mrs. Amelia A., wife of Deacon Russell Nichols, died at her home here Thursday the 9th inst., after an illness of nearly four months duration, the greater part of which time has been passed in intense suffering. Deceased was in her 66th year. She was born in Warwick, and was the daughter of Robinson and Amey Lockwood. One sister survives her, Mrs. Hannah Locke.

She married Russell Nichols nearly 45 years ago, two children being born to them, who with the husband survive her. When quite young she sought and found Christ as her Saviour and later in life united with the Knotty Oak church, where she has ever been an earnest and consecrated member, not only in her church relations but wherever along life's pathway work needed to be done she was ever willing and obedient to the Master's call. In her home and among her neighbors the loss will naturally be the most keenly felt, owing to her cheery disposition and tact for making life pleasant for all about her.

During her sickness and when nearing the end of life's journey the Christ whom she served in health and sunshine was her support and guide, and that promise made his disciples long ago was her's to the end, viz, my grace is sufficient for you, for during the long weeks of her sickness never a word of complaint escaped her lips. She died as she lived, trusting in her Savior.

The funeral services were held from the Knotty Oak church, Monday, the 13th inst, at 12 o'clock, and were attended by a large number of relatives and friends of the departed. The pastor, Rev. D. L. Bennett, officiated and spoke comforting words to the bereaved husband and family, from II. Timothy 11:10. The bearers were H. P. Ralph, George W. Battey, Searles Capwell and Edward Johnson, all members of the same church with the deceased. Interment took place in the family lot in Pine Grove cemetery.
