When his father died, he went to work for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad to help support the family at age 15. When he was 17, he moved to Newark, N.J., and worked for Mrs. Wagner Baking and Pie Corp. for 17 years. He was so identified with the company that many people knew him as Tony Wagner. Mr. Adornato joined the Navy in September 1942 and served aboard the USS Albert W. Grant as a master electrician. He was injured when the ship was torpedoed in October 1944. He spent the next 27 years, until his retirement, working at Port Newark Refrigerated Warehouses in Elizabeth, N.J., as a chief engineer. Mr. Adornato was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 68 since 1962 and served for several years as conductor. He was a member of the Giblin Association for over 25 years and also served as a sergeant-at-arms for the Independent Irish Society for two years. He was a longtime member of the East Orange Amvets.
Husband of the late Geraldine Adornato (nee Torlucci). He is survived by his daughters, Elaine DeGrazio and Lucille Druther; son, Carmen; brother, Joseph, and sister, Rachel Adornato of Susquehanna, Pa. He was also brother of the late Francis and Philip Adornato of Susquehanna, Pa. He is also survived by grandchildren, Elaine Laino, Gerard, Michael and Nicholas DeGrazio; great-grandchildren, Savannah and Michael Laino, Giuliana, Gabriella, Dylan, Jake and Brooke DeGrazio, and Danielle Druther, and great-great-granddaughter, Alaina Druther.
