Verdie Hellene Johnson, 82, Carthage, Mo., passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011, in the Carthage Health and Rehab Center.

She was born Dec. 18, 1928, in Quapaw, Okla., to the late Robert and Rhoda Mae (Harnar) Bruffett.

Verdie was married to Lewis H. Lumpkins and Roy Allen who preceded her. She later married George H. Johnson who also preceded her in 1976.

She was also preceded by one daughter, Joy Marie Allen Williams; by one brother, Jess Bruffett; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She enjoyed being outdoors, especially when tending to her garden and to her flowers. She also liked sewing. Verdie was dedicated to her family was known for her cooking at family gatherings.

She is survived by her children, Sandra Lumpkins Brown, Orlando, Fla., Paula Lumpkins Tullis (Roger), El Dorado, Kan., Carolyn Lumpkins Rainey (John), Joplin, Mo., Kathie Lumpkins Buckner (George), Webb City, Mo., Roy "Rob" Allen (Beverly), Carthage, and Nancy Allen Yearwood, Tulsa, Okla.; one brother, George Bruffett (Marilyn), Wichita, Kan.; 20 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

No formal services are scheduled. Inurnment will be in Park Cemetery, Columbus, Kan., under direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary, Carthage.
