Albert was assigned to the USS West Virginia when it was bombed at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. His cousin, Helen Thompson Frank, reported that Al was not a very good swimmer, but that day, when he had to jump into the harbor, he "swam for his life."

On 9 Jan 2013, contributor Mary R Frank shared clarification regarding Albert Everman's mother's name:
"Albert's mother's maiden name was Ruth Richardson. The Thompson name is erroneously listed on his death certificate as his mother's maiden name. Thompson was actually the last name of Albert's aunt, Erma Richardson Thompson, and her husband, George Louis Thompson. At times during his childhood, Albert lived with George and Erma Thompson in Racine, WI. In the same household were Albert and Emma Richardson, parents of Ruth and Erma and maternal grandparents of Albert Everman. Erma and George Thompson's daughter, Helen May Thompson, was also part of the family. Helen Thompson later married Richard Warren Frank."
