MARS HILL: Van Dewey Jamerson, 84, of Mars Hill went to his heavenly home June 12, 2011. His death was unexpected, but he went out with joy and was led forth with peace. Isa. 55:12. He was born April 21, 1927 in Yancey County. He lived most of his life in Madison County. He was the son of the late William C. and Nellie Silvers Jamerson. He graduated from Bald Creek High School. He received a diploma in Education Ministries from the Southern Baptist Seminary Extension Program in April, 1981. He served as a deacon of Upper Laurel Baptist Church until he moved to south Buncombe. He used his gift of teaching to be a Sunday school teacher at Upper Laurel, Skyland 1st, Little Ivy and Blue Ridge Baptist Church. He cared for our Mother and his wife Edna Ballard Jamerson and faithfully stayed by her side through her illness until her death March 8, 2010. He was a thoughtful father, loving grandfather and great grandfather. "The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him" Prov. 20:7.
He worked as a pattern maker for Kellwood Company until 1991. He was a member of the Bald Creek Masonic Lodge #397 AF and AM where he served for 6o years. He spent his retirement studying God's Word, reading and flea marketing. He was looking forward to his trip to Hammond, Louisiana to attend the marriage of his grandson, Neil Jamerson to Kelly Miller.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his infant son, Allen Lane Jamerson, three sisters; Pearl Revis, Juanita Rice and Era Boone, three brothers; Carl, Hugh and Columbus Jamerson.
He is survived by his daughter, Janice (Myron) Cody of Mars Hill, three sons; Gary (Marie) Jamerson of Mars Hill, Everette (Margaret) Jamerson of Fletcher and Warren(Myra) Jamerson of Rydal, GA., a sister, Edna Marshall of Johnson City, TN and a brother, Reece Jamerson of Jonesborough, TN., five grandsons; Jonathan (Sarah) Cody, Desmond (Kim) Jamerson, Brian (Amy) Jamerson, Neil Jamerson and fiancé' Kelly Miller and Eric Jamerson and five great-grandchildren, Lucas and Case Cody, Nicholas, Alyssa and Cade Jamerson.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 15, 2011 in Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Rev. Billy Murray will officiate. Burial will follow in Upper Laurel Baptist Church Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Daddy's last words of encouragement were found in his final Bible Study Notes III John 3-4.
For I rejoice greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
I have no greater joy than to hear my children walk in truth.
