George Edward "Edd" Sims was the middle child of five sons born to Henry Clay Sims and Elizabeth Caroline Davis. He married Emma Reynolds on January 11, 1906 in Missouri. They had three children: Ward McClellan Sims, Neal Sims, and Norma Rowena Sims. Edd lost his beautiful wife, Emma, to an early death on May 4, 1915 when she was just 26 years old, leaving him with the two boys and a four year old baby girl. Neal's mother, Caroline, had just died a year before May 15, 1914.

Sometime between 1920 and 1930, Edd married Ottie Pearl Tolbert. At the time they married, Ottie had three little girls: Beulah Pearl Steeley, Josephine Augusta Steeley, and Kathleen Steeley. Edd and Ottie had one son together, Edward Lee "Eddie" Sims. They were married for many years until Edd's death on April 24, 1959 in Republic, Missouri.

1920 Missouri Cass, Stone County, Census shows Ed Sims as a widower with three children: Ward-age 12, Neal-age 10, & Norma-age 8.

1930 Census shows Edd as married and living with Otty, his wife, and three step-daughters. Eddie was not born until 1932.
