Mrs. Hayes ' maiden name was Margaret Feehan. She was born Sept. 20 1834, at Kilmaganic parish of Gallyhale, Kilkenny, Ireland. She was one of a family of eight children. Her father died when she was young and her mother married again to Edward Wallace. The family came to America when decedent was aged 6 years and settled in Tiogan, Penn., where she received her early education. In 1853 she came to Illinois and was married April 15, 1855, to John Hayes. They settled on a farm near Tremont and later moved to the vicinity of Delavan where Mr. Hayes purchased a farm and this has since been known as the Hayes homestead, a short distance south east of the city. Here the family lived until 1894, where the erected a residence in Delavan, and that city has been their home ever since. Mr. Hayes passed away April 9, 1909.Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hayes, two of whom survive, Mandy, Harry, Ellen and M. Louise, at home. One son J.E. Hayes passed away last October in Ashville, N.C. Mrs. Hayes is the last of a family of eight brothers and sisters. She is also survived by two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
