He was born Sept. 15, 1945 in Rush County to the late Gale B. and Anna Mae (Jarboe) Barnard.
A veteran of the United States Navy, he was an E-5 Sonar Tech in Vietnam. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in New Castle in 1996 after 24 years of service. He served on the board of the Henry County Heart Society, and was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed golf, NASCAR and was an avid sports fan. As a tribute to Gail's patriotism, the family requests that those attending visitation wear red, white and blue.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Marsha L. (Kissick) Barnard of New Castle; two sons, Benjamin (wife, JoAnna) Barnard of New Castle and Bryan (wife, Ruth) Barnard of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Candy Morgan, Tori Barnard, Milo Barnard and Lucia Barnard; siblings, Peggy Richardson of Rushville, Phil (wife, Angie) Barnard of Beech Grove and Mary (husband, Chris) Miller of Rushville; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Tom and Susan Haskett and family; mother-in-law, Eileen Murray of New Castle; in-laws, Nancy (husband, Phil) Harrold of Noblesville, Peggy Muncy of New Castle, Duane (wife, Belinda) Kissick of Greensboro and Marilyn (husband, Tony) Cox of Osgood.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his fathers-in-law, Kash Kissick Jr. and Fred Murray.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011 at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and VFW.
