George married couple times bet lst wife and Martha
George got job of moving all mules off of Fort Bayard Military Reservation. This was couple of years before WWII. Got job because he was WWI Vet. He joined about 6 months before War was over. Reservation is 19 sections. 640 acres to section. Lived in Post Commander's house. Reservation was originally built to fight Apaches.

George Washington Whitten, 86, died Saturdrly evening in Silver City. Mr. Whitten was born in Decater, Tx but was a longtime resident of Grant County. He is survived by one daughter, Pam Whurten of Silver City; two sons,, Wayne L Whitten of El Paso and Ronald Whitten of Killeen, Texas; four grandchildren and two great-granchildren. He was preceeded in death by his wife, Martha Whitten, in 1972. Graveside services were held at the Memory Lane Cemetery in Silver City with Davis Dugan of 12th and West Street Church of Christ officiating and the Allingham-Golding Post No. 18 conducting military honors. Serving as pallbearers were Steve Aguirre Sr., Steve Aguirre Jr, Mike Bcrhea, Librado MaIdonado, Ruddy Rogers and Robert Scullion. Honorary pallbearers were Roy Amos, Wayne Whittell, Tony Whitter1 Freddie Wilerten, Ronnie Wilerton and Dale Rogers. Arrangements were by the Wheeler Funeral Home of Silver City.
