MRS. BENNETT DIES SATURDAY AT AGE OF 79
Prominent Citizen Ill Many Months; Funeral Held Monday
Mrs. Daisy Dell Bennett, widow of the late Lorenzo Bennett and a life-long citizen of La Harpe and community, passed away at her home in this city at 12:45 a. m. on Saturday, February 7, 1953 after a year-long illness. She had reached the advanced age of 79 years four months and nine days.
Her long and tiring illness had entailed untold suffering which she bore with the Christian understanding and patience that had characterized her life, proving to the very last a true inspiration for those about her.
A daughter of Elkanah and Rebecca (Butler) Mesecher, she was born on the family farm one mile south of LaHarpe on September 28, 1873. She attended rural schools and later the old LaHarpe Seminary, which was prominent in an early day as a seat of higher learning for the entire area. Her marriage to Lorenzo Bennett, occurred in the home of her parents on December 26, 1901.
Mr. and Mrs. Bennett began housekeeping in the imposing country home east of LaHarpe that was to be the Bennett family home from that time until the present. Their many happy productive years, in which they assumed more than a usual interest in the affairs of their community and of their church, formed a definite part of the civic, religious and social history of the community where their entire lives were spent.
Retirement came 21 years ago, when Mr. and Mrs. Bennett acquired the home on East Main street in LaHarpe. It was there that death came to the husband and father on December 9, 1940 and that Mrs. Bennett spent her last days and was on Saturday called to her eternal reward.
Mrs. Bennett was for many years a member of and active in the LaHarpe Christian church.
