Mrs. Narcissa T. Pendleton, widow of the late James F. Pendleton, Sr., died at the residence of her son, Dr. John S. Pendleton, last Saturday morning, at the a advanced age of 71 years, 10 months and 18 days. The deceased was a daughter of Samuel and Sallie C Cecil, of Tazewell County. She came to this country with her husband in 1832, and she was one of nine members, only one of whom remains who formed the first methodist class Marion. For about 56 years she had been a zealous and consistent member of the church of her choice. Through a long and painful illness she was tenderly nursed by her surviving children and friends. Death came at last and claimed as a victim one whose consistent life has been an example and whose faithful labors a blessing to the community. The funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon in the Presbyterian Church by her pastor, Dr. W.H. Leith, after which the remains were followed by a large procession of friends to Round Hill Cemetery. The community has lost an upright and honored member and her family a loving and affectionate mother.
