Born: 20 Sep 1824 in Jane Lew, Lewis County, Virginia; the second of eleven children and five sons of Stephen Pomeroy and Hannah Bailey Jackson.

Died: 13 May 1907 in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland.

Parents: Stephen Pomeroy Jackson and Hannah (Bailey) Jackson.

3 Spouses:

1) Mary Katherine (Fell) Jackson. Married on 29 Oct 1850 in Glenville, Gilmer County, VA. Children: Stephen Alonzo Jackson and Mary Scott Jackson.

2) Isabella Holt (Beatie) Jackson. Married 10 Aug 1864 (to 21 Jul 1880) in Town House, Chilhowie, Smyth Co., VA. Children: Walter Beattie Jackson and Hannah Belle Jackson.

3) Mary Louisa (Davisson) Jackson. Married 05 Nov 1894 (to 13 May 1907) in Jane Lew, Lewis Co., WV.

Minter married first wife, Mary Katherine Fell, a month after he turned twenty-six, on 29 October 1850 in Glenville, Gilmer County, Virginia. She bore him two children, a son and a daughter, before she died of consumption on 4 March 1856. In the meantime he had farmed, gone into the dry goods business and been twice elected as a Whig to the Virginia House of Delegates. He had also prospered. The 1860 census shows him with $15,000 in real and $15,000 in personal property. In 1861 he formed a partnership with several other men including several in-laws, to bore for oil in Wirt County. In the Civil War, he was a Confederate sympathizer but to date there is no evidence that he fought in the Southern army.

By the mid-1860's he had moved southwest to Chilhowie in Smyth County, and on 10 August 1864 he married his second wife, Isabella Holt Beattie at her home, the "Town House" in Chilhowie. Isabella bore him two children, a son and a daughter, but died of unknown causes in Chilhowie on 21 July 1880 a few months before she turned fifty.

In the meantime Minter had gone into the banking business, founding the Bank of Marion, Virginia, in February 1874, and also entered the pottery business. In addition, he had a string of general stores in Southwest Virginia. Fourteen years passed after Isabella's death before Minter remarried. In 1894, he married Mary Louisa Davisson Bailey, the widow of a cousin in Lewis County, West Virginia, with two grown sons (a third son had died).

In 1907 Minter's health was failing. He went to Baltimore and entered the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he died on 13 May 1907.
