A son of Captain William Conwell and Comfort Coulter, he married Margaret Davidson in 1799, who died in 1827 and is buried in Fayette Co., Pa. On April 15, 1805, his parents deeded him 80 acres reserving for themselves one third of the profits of said land as rent as long as either of them lived. With the death of his parents and his wife, he sold that land, packed up his family and moved, with his brothers, Prettyman and William Conwell, to near Stillwater , Ohio - arriving on October 27, 1827, and lived out his life there. He told that they lived entirely by a huge log fire until they were able to build their first cabin - a log structure that was 10 by 10 and open at one end. The following summer they improved the cabin, enlarging it, adding windows, a door, wooden floor and fireplace.
His will, written on January 21, 1837, was filed in the Probate Court of Tuscarawas County in November. In it, he left "the remainder" of his personal property to his sons, Lewis and Thomas C., except a special clock, which he left to Lewis. The land he owned at his death was divided between them as well. His daughters, Sarah Gibbons and Eliza Kurtz each received $100 to be paid by their brothers. He noted that he had given daughter, Anne Romig and son, Jeremiah Davidson Conwell, their shares at their marriages, and therefore they were entitled to nothing more. He is buried in a field on the Conwell family farm, deeded by President Andrew Jackson. For many years, two large stones marked his grave and that of his infant grandson, John Conwell. But at a reunion in 1955, family members couldn't locate the graves. The farm is no longer in the Conwell family. The children of Thomas and Margaret Davidson Conwell were: Sarah Gibbons (1804-1854), Eliza Kurtz (1811-1870), Anne Romig (1810-1835), Lewis (1808-1883), Jeremiah Davidson (1812-1887), and Thomas (1816-1845). All but Sarah (who ended up in western Ohio) and Lewis lived and died in Tuscarawas Co., Ohio.
