Mrs. Jane Wise Sprowls, widow of Simon Sprowls, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Leo McGlumphy, of Claysville, Friday, January 24, aged 82 years, following a stroke of paralysis. Mrs. Sprowls was a daughter of John and Margaret Supler Wise, and was born in Morris township, this county. She was united in marriage with Simon Sprowls, December 25, 1868, and they resided on a farm near Simpson's Store. His death occurred 26 years ago. She was the last charter member of the Valley M. E. church. Nine children survive: Mrs. M. J. Flynn, Mrs. Ella Shaw, Mrs. Sophia Barker, of Washington; Mrs. M. E. Ealy and Mrs. George (sic) McGlumphy, of Claysville; Mrs. S. A. Dague, of Washington, R. D. 6; Mrs. Nellie (sic) Porter, of near Nineveh; Mrs. Essie Huffman, Graysville, and Jacob Sprowls, West Finley. She also leaves two brothers and a sister, T. H. Wise, Huntington, W. Va., L. S. Wise and Mrs. Mary Huffman, Time, this county; also 39 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Fairmount United Brethren church, conducted by Rev. John Winwood. Interment in the church cemetery.
