Christopher served in the Royal Engineers during World War I. He and Catherine were married during the war. After the marriage, Christopher returned to the front and was wounded in the back of the upper thigh while running back from blowing a bridge during the German big offensive of 1918. He always walked with a limp after that.

He died at his daughter, Marjorie's, home in Kings Lynn.

He and wife, Annie Cecilia Dorcas Hastings, had six children; Harry, Dennis, Marjorie, Peter, and Rosalie. They may have had a seventh child, Geoffrey, that died at birth or shortly thereafter in March of 1935.
