daughter of Andrew Epes and Louise O'Neal Harris
wife of Charles Hoomes "Bear" Beale, Jr.

From Joseph McMillian Funeral Home:
Lunette Harris Beale, 83, of The Woodland in Farmville, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 6, 2010. Born in Blackstone, VA on March 2, 1927, Lunette graduated from Blackstone High School and Mary Washington College where upon commencement, she pursued an education career as a teacher. A devoted and active member of Blackstone Presbyterian Church, Lunette served as president of her circle and the Women of the Church. She was also a member of the Blackstone Garden Club. An avid golfer, Lunette found great pleasure in a game that tested her mentally and physically. She was a member of Nottoway River Country Club, the Ladies Southside Golf Association and the Virginia State Golf Association, playing on what her family fondly referred to as "the tour" from March to October. Others warmheartedly recall how Lunette shared her knowledge of the game of golf with newer players so they would better understand the rules and etiquette as well as working with them to improve their individual games. She was a true educator in all aspects of her life and will be fondly remembered as a caring and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who fully embraced life. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Colonel Charles H. Beale, Jr. USMC (Ret.) of Blackstone; a daughter, Katherine Anne Beale of Blackstone; a son, Lt. Col. Charles H. Beale, III, USMC (Ret.) (Sally) of Blackstone; and a younger sister, Katherine Harris Coleburn of Blackstone. She was predeceased by her parents, Epes and Louise Harris and her brothers, Dr. A. Epes Harris, Jr. and Dr. James S. Harris. She also is survived by three grandchildren, Matthew C. Beale (Jiun), John E. Beale and Katherine F. Beale as well as a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 9, 2010 in the Assembly Hall of the Blackstone Presbyterian Church. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, September 17, 2010, at the Blackstone Presbyterian Church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blackstone Presbyterian Church, 301 Church Street, Blackstone, VA 23824.
