Lucille Elizabeth Sheley, 87, Dexter, formerly of Jefferson City, died Jan. 21, 2003, at Cypress Point Health Care, Dexter. She was born Nov. 30, 1915, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Alfred F. "Spot" and Mary Margaret Grafe Renn. She was married Feb. 15, 1936, in Jefferson City, to Woodford "Woody" C. Sheley, who died Feb. 4, 1988.

She attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School and graduated from Jefferson City Senior High School. She worked for Union State Bank, Clinton, as ration and loan officer. She worked for the State of Missouri in the treasurer's office, for the secretary of state, in the Senate clerk's office and was executive secretary for the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. She was appointed circuit clerk of Cole County, where she worked for 22 years, having been elected twice. She was appointed personnel officer for the Department of Safety before her retirement in 1981.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter and was a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella Glennon Circle, charter member and past president of Karim Khan Grotto Auxiliary and was a member of St. Ann's Sodality of Immaculate Conception Church. She was a member of Federated Democratic Women's Clubs, past president of Cole County Women's Jefferson Democratic Club, past chairman of Cole County Democratic committee, past chairman of 8th District Central committee and past president of 8th Congressional District Women's Club. She was past president of Missouri Federated Democratic Women's Club and a former liaison officer for district, state and regional offices in Jefferson City, Kansas City and Chicago.

Survivors include: one son, the Rev. John William Sheley, Dexter; and one sister, Josephine H. Duncan, Columbia.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. John William Sheley, the Rev. Peter Ullrich and the Rev. Patrick Dolan will officiate. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Buescher Memorial Home, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Endowment Fund of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dexter, or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jefferson City.
