He was a native and life long resident of Hatteras. He was a retired commercial fisherman and a member of the Hatteras United Methodist Church.
He was a son of the late John Rufus and Mrs. Annie Stowe Ballance and the husband of Mrs. Myrtle Ballance Ballance of the home.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Fern B. Farrow of Buxton; one sister, Mrs. Ada Daisy Gaskins of Hatteras; one brother, Linwood Ballance of Dover, Del.; and 2 grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning in Twiford's Island Chapel in Hatteras by Rev. Fred Roberts and Rev. Joe Moser. Burial followed in the Peele Family Cemetery in Hatteras.
