Ethel M. BATES rites Friday

Ethel M. BATES, 94, lifelong resident of the Fairfield area, died at 4 a.m. Monday at the Longhouse Care Center in Spencer.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Raymond Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Miller will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.

Ethel May BATES was born Nov. 24, 1890, in Richwoods community of Jefferson County, the daughter of William and Ida LARIMORE ALLENDER. She received her early education in the Richwoods community and graduated from the Parsons College Academy in 1910. She taught school until she was married.

Her marriage to Carl H. BATES took place at the Allender home in Buchanan Township March 18, 1915. They farmed in the Prairie Chapel community until 1950 when they retired and moved to Fairfield.

Mrs. BATES was a lifetime member of the Methodist church. She was also a member of Log Cabin Chapter, DAR; Fairfield Women's Club, Teachers Association, Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary and WSCS.

She is survived by a twin sister, Edna ALLENDER LAWRENCE, Spencer, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband who died in 1963 she was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
