After his wife's death, he married Beulah Medlock Keeling in 1975. She had four children.
Mr. Belew had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Summersville since 1947. He was a local contractor and builder as well as a farmer. He owned Belew's Recreation Center for many years. His joy was the youth who would come on their lunch break and after school.
He liked to fish and hunt and could tell hunting stories to keep others entertained. He had fished in Alaska and Canada, hunted wild game in Colorado and deep-sea fished off the coast of California to Mexico.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson; one brother, Roy Belew; seven half brothers, two half sisters, two stepbrothers and one stepsister.
Surviving are his wife of Summersville; two children, Twila "Kitty" Spencer of Summersville and Donis Belew of Dadeville, Ala.; his stepchildren, Larry Keeling of Salome, Ariz., John Keeling of Aztec, N.M., Roy Keeling of Weatherford, Texas, and Marlys Lively of Palestine, Texas; two sisters, Ethel Smith and Pearl Neagle of Summersville; and one grandson.
Services were June 8 at the First Baptist Church in Summersville with the Rev. Phil Jester and Dr. Wayne Wood officiating. Burial was in the Summersville City Cemetery under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home of Summersville.
