John Edward Ast, 82, of Sun City Center, Florida, died peacefully early Friday, May 4, 2007. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Joyce Campbell Ast, Sun City Center; two sons, John Robert Ast (Virginia), Ouray, Colo., and Kenneth Edward Ast (Ivy), Cary, N.C.; three grandchildren, Karen Geisler (Spencer), Olathe, Kans., Jason Ast, Greenville, N.C., and Matthew Ast, Greensboro, N.C. He is also survived by sisters, Linka Kipper and Kathryn Krause (Carlyle); brothers, Frederick Ast (Grena) and Frank Ast (Joan). Preceding him in death were his first wife, Agnes Ast; and his sister, Elsie Schmick.

Born and raised in Matamoras, Pa., he served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theatre from 1943 to 1945. He was a life member of VFW Post 1288. His career spanned 41 years with IBM Corporation in Endicott, N.Y., where he held many positions, including Tool Maker, Quality Analyst, and Manufacturing Engineer. John and Joyce enjoyed more than 20 years of happy retirement in Florida. This included over 100 SCC Gadabout Club trips in the U.S. and Europe. He is also the current all-time record holder at the SCC Aquatic Fitness Center with 3,781 miles. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in SCC. His loving memory will live on in the hearts of family and friends, and his presence in their lives will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 9, from 4-7 p.m. at Allen Memorial Home, with funeral services on Thursday, May 10, 12:00 Noon at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, both in Endicott, N.Y.
