Indian Trader with the Cherokee; had trading post at Chota by 1755; probably had a Cherokee wife and children due to time spent in the Nation; married his "white" wife on 11 June 1780 - Elizabeth Isabella Belle (Massengill) Timothy, a widow. Had 8 children by Belle; Was active in the Rev War (Kings Mountain) and Indian wars; Warned by Nancy Ward, the Beloved Woman of the Cherokee when Dragging Canoe went on the warpath, and he and another trader warned the settlers; First settler of Sevierville, TN; First court of Sevier Co., TN was held in his house.
