John was born in Stark Co, Ohio and there enlisted and served with the 47th Ohio Volunteers during the Civil War. He died Mar 10, 1910 at his home 5 miles south of South Whitley, Ind. In 1868 he married Miss Adaline Cocklin who survives with 6 of their 7 children. The children are: Charles, South Whitley, Ind; Webster, Hillsboro, Ore.; Emmett, Ft. Wayne, Ind and Grace Trump at home. Two of his brothers, Michael and Amos live in Marshall Co, Ind. and 3 sisters are: Mrs. Charles H. Fogel, Columbia City. Ind; Mrs. George Clark, Goshen, Ind. and Mrs. Henry Sherrick, LaPaz, Ind. He came to Cleveland Tp, Whitley Co., Ind. in 1882. The funeral service was held in the U.B. Church at South Whitley with the Rev. Rittenhouse officiating.
