Son of Mathias Teple Laforge and Anna Lancaster, was born in 1833, in Lyons, Wayne County, New York.

On June 13, 1861, John was united in marriage to Mary L. Bower at New Lisbon, Juneau County, Wis. Mary was born in March 1841, in Michigan, daughter of Adam Bower, born in Canada and Freelove ________, born in New York. She died December 18, 1914, at Towanda, Butler County, Kansas. Their known children were:

Anna M., b. 25 Jun 1866 in Wis.;
Earl Carl, b. Feb 1870 in Leon, Iowa; &
Nellie C. Laforge, b. Feb 1870 in Leon, Iowa.

John was an Army veteran having served five years in Company B, 4th U.S. Infantry Regiment as a Private. He was discharged June 14, 1860. He did not serve in the Civil War. There are no records that John or his widow purchased a plot in this cemetery and no gravestone exists for him. His daughter Anna is also buried there with a gravestone.
