Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Home in Purcell.
Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery. Cooper Funeral Home is handling
arrangements.
Mr. Banta was born Sept. 5, 1931, in Asher, to John and Pearl (Sims)
Banta. He was raised in Asher and Harjo and graduated from Harjo High
School. He married Mary Ruth Davis June 21, 1950, in Gainesville, Texas.
They lived throughout Oklahoma, Texas and overseas, and had lived in
Purcell since 1998. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He
held several supervisory positions in the petroleum industry. He was a
member of Romulus Baptist Church and the Shawnee VFW. He enjoyed fishing.
His grandchildren were a focal point of his life.
Mr. Banta was preceded in death by his son, Marlan Clinton Banta Jr.;
parents; brothers, John and Coy Banta; and sisters, Cleo Haskell and
Juanita Carrol.
Mr. Banta is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth Banta of the home; daughters,
Marla Banta and husband, Mike McBride, of Jennings and Tempest and
husband, Ron Sullivan, of Sapulpa; sons, John and wife, Linda Banta, of
Purcell, Coy W. and wife, Tedi Banta, of Houston; daughter-in-law,
Florence Banta of Healdton; sisters, Hazel Cossey of Shawnee and Imojean
Young of Washington; brother, Bob Banta of Odessa, Texas; 11
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many other family members and
friends.
