PERRY - Paul Dwight Barnard, 88, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2010.
He was born on November 19, 1921 in Brigham City, Utah a son of George Earl and Ruth Davis Barnard. He was raised in Perry and attended school there and in Brigham City.
Paul married Alta Ravsten on November 13, 1944 in the Logan LDS Temple.
Paul joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. as a young man and learned the meaning of hard work.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served proudly during WWII as Torpedoman 2nd Class in the Pacific Theatre. He was an excellent mechanic and automotive machinist. He built several different cars; two of which he raced on the Bonneville Salt Flats. He retired from Thiokol in 1984. He was active in the LDS Church and served many positions including Bishop, First and Second Counselor. He served two terms as Perry Mayor and two terms on the Perry City Council. His greatest treasures were his wife and family and especially enjoyed teaching them to fish. He loved his dogs as he did his children and vice versa. He tried to have a family vacation every year. Paul and Alta enjoyed traveling to many different places around the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Blaine, Ray and Ralph.
He is survived by his wife Alta, six children: Rita (Edward) Johnson, Eileen Barnard, Harlan (Linda) Barnard, Alana (Walt) Reavis, Wendy (Tom) Ouellette, Jay Dee (Kim) Barnard, 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also a sister, JoAnn Thorstensen, Ogden.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Perry 5th Ward Chapel, 2415 S. Park Drive.
Friends may call on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham and on Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m. at the Church.
Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
