Son of Fremont's Guide Buried
SAN LUIS OBISPO - Oct. 14 Funeral services were held here Friday for Thomas F. Foxen, 74, son of the late William B. Foxen, who acted as guide for General John Fremont, when he captured California from the Mexican government.
The elder Foxen is said to have saved the entire Fremont force from annihilation in Gaviota Pass, when the Mexicans had gathered in ambush, by taking them through the San Marcos Pass into Santa Barbara. Thomas F. is survived by a widow and brothers.
