Born in Campobello, S.C., he was a son of the late William and Mollie Roberson Hitt.
Mr. Hitt was retired from Gaylord Container and was a member of East Park Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Lynda Matthews of Pelzer; a granddaughter, Stephanie Smith and her husband, Dale, of Pelzer; two grandsons, Mark West and his wife Heather and Dennison Matthews, all of Pelzer; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 7, 2009, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. A graveside service will be held Sunday, March 8, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
