Nora Bell was my grandmother. Her children and grandchildren called her Mommy. Everyone who knew her said she was such a kind, gentle lady who loved God. Even though she had a very difficult life, my dad said she played the mandolin beautifully and liked to sing. She lived without electricity or running water until she went to live her final five years with her son, Roy, and his family. She washed clothes for a family of twelve in a kettle in the front yard. Her granddaughter, Joyce, said Mommy baked the best biscuits she's ever had and did it in the oven of her wood-burning stove. I am the only grandchild named after her and feel blessed to be called Nora.
