Topeka State Journal Saturday 23 Sept., 1972, pg. 23:

John A. Brinkmeyer, 85, 1324 Washburn, died Friday in a convalescent center at Lawrence. He was born March 11, 1887 at Chanute and spent his early life in the Eudora and Lawrence communities. He lived in the Detroit and Enterprise communities in Dickinson county before he moved to Topeka in 1920. He was an Army veteran of World War I.

He began work with the US Postal Service in 1916 at Abilene where he was a rural mail carrier. He was transferred to Topeka in 1920 and retired May 31, 1956 after 40 years of service.

Mr. Brinkmeyer had been a member of the former Trinity Methodist Church where he served on the Official Board many years. He was a member of Philip Billard Post No. 1650, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Jayhawk Barracks No. 1113, World War I Veterans, and the National Assn. of Retired Postal Employees.

His wife, Mrs. Bessie P. Brinkmeyer, died June 7, 1970. Several nieces and nephews survive. Services will be Monday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home with entombment in Mount Hope Mausoleum.
