Amos Wallis Lashley was the son of G. W. and Nancy Lashley. He was raised in Flatwoods, Iron County, Missouri until the age of seven when the family moved to a farm on the banks of Big Creek near Des Arc, Missouri. Amos became a minister of the Nazarene Church and served in the church at Des Arc. He frequently led camp meetings throughout the area and spoke and many revivals. He also served as Justice of the Peace in Des Arc for a term. During the Great Depression, he travelled with his sons Charles, Marshall, Virgil, Walter, and daughter Zella to find work in the automobile industry. During his final days after the death of his wife he was frequently found wandering the roads and saying that he was going home to the Flatwoods.
