PEARL HOPKINS COUNTISS POUND, VA – Mrs. Pearl Hopkins Countiss, 104, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 7, 2014. Mrs. Countiss was of the Christian faith and was a member of the Mt. Zion Old Regular Baptist for approximately 50 years. She was a homemaker and a former clerk in her family's general store. She loved to reminisce about the store and the customers and about growing up in Hopkins Holler. Pearl always put her family first, then the people in her neighborhood. She loved to cook, her specialty was butterscotch pie. Mrs. Countiss was preceded in death by husband, Millard L. Countiss; her parents, Nelson and Laura (Sowards) Hopkins; a daughter, Barbara Stidham;three sons, Foyster L. Countiss, James L. Countiss and an infant son; Five sisters- Nora Addington, Carrie Burton, Cora Hopkins, Ota Church and June Engle; and six brother, Henry Hopkins, Jim Hopkins, Earl Hopkins, Norman Hopkins, Tom Hopkins and Arch Hopkins. Survivors include her daughter Geraldine (Peanut) Mayorshi and late husband Frank-Roanoke, VA; son-in-law Claude Stidham; eight grandchildren, Marcus Countiss and wife Janice, Jerome Countiss, Valerie Countiss- all from Houston, TX; Sherry Stidham- Wise, VA; Shelly Logan and husband Durwin- Pound, VA; Chris Stidham and wife Jennifer- Mebane, NC; Scott Mayorshi and wife Pam and Susan Sine and husband Ken- all from Roanoke, VA; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; her caregivers, Elizabeth Mullins, Ann Poholsky, Trish Kiser, Iva Stidham, Shirley Burke, Kristy Jackson and Crea Stallard; a special grand-daughter, Shelly Logan; and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn her passing and cherish her memory. A celebration of Pearl's life will take place at 7:00 pm Sunday, August 10, 2014 in the Sadie Baker Memorial Chapel with Reverend Jerry Lusk officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until time of services. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 am Monday, August 11, 2014 at the Mt. Zion Cemetery- Pound, VA where grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends asked to meet at the funeral home by 10am to prepare to go in procession to the cemetery In lieu of flowers donations should be made in Mrs. Countiss's memory to either: Pound Rescue Squad- P O Box 711, Pound, VA 24279 Mt Zion Church- 9427 Rat Creek Road , Pound, VA 24279 or Dewey School- 9427 Rat Creek Road , Pound, VA 24279 Baker Funeral Home-Pound, VA is serving the family of Pearl Hopkins Countiss.
