Miss Fanny Hale Accidently Shot to Death at Greeley Sat.
Popular Brush Girl Victim of Gun in Hands of Jesting Schoolmate Last Saturday Afternoon

A pall of gloom was cast over Brush and community last Saturday afternoon when word was received that Miss Fanny Hale had been shot and killed at Greeley, where she was attending the State Teachers College. 'Miss Hale was killed instantly when a pistol in the hands of Miss Lucille Cooper, 17, a classmate and bosom friend, was accidently discharged. The tragedy occurred in the home of Mrs. Raymond Marcus, substitute physical director at the college, and a friend of the girls. Miss Hale and Miss Cooper, together with two other companions. Miss Evelyn Dahl and Miss Florence Bruhn both of Kiowa, Colorado, had gone to the Marcus home following commencement exercises to bid her good-by before leaving for their homes. Gathered in front of the dressing table in the Marcus home, the four girls were putting on their hats when Miss Cooper noticed a pistol which Marcus had found on a week-end trip in the mountains. Picking it up she jokingly pointed it at Miss Hale and said: "Fanny, look out: I'm going to shoot you.'' Just then Mrs. Marcus noticed the gun and shouted a warning to put it down because it was loaded. Possibly excited by the sudden warning, Miss Cooper accidently pulled the trigger of the gun, the bullet striking Miss Hale in the heart and killing her instantly. Miss Dahl's coat was burned by the discharge. Fanny Clare Hale, youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Hale, was born at Diller. Nebraska, May 8, 1911 and passed away at Greeley Saturday, June 2, 1928.
