Phillip R. Brand

Phillip Ray Brand of Navarre, FL went home to be with the Lord on June 1, 2011 in Navarre, FL, surrounded by family. Phillip was born in Meridian, MS to Glois and Escol Brand. He attended college at both Ole Miss and LSU after graduating from John McDonogh High School in New Orleans in 1955. After college, he worked for North American Aviation as a Flight Test Data Engineer working with B-52 aircrafts and Quality Control for the Apollo Space Program.

In 1958, Phillip moved with his parents to Fort Walton Beach, FL to open FWB Municipal Airport and operate Brand Flying Service. He taught flight instruction seven days a week for the next 13 years.

Eventually, Phillip and his dad opened additional airports in Crestview, Destin, Milton and Navarre.

Phillip moved from private enterprise to corporate becoming the "first" pilot for Gulf Power Company based at Pensacola Airport where he flew executives in turboprop planes and jets until he retired in 1994 after 20 years of service.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 43 years, Nelta Fling Brand; four daughters: Charlotte Bulutoglu (Ali), Sara Van Sickle (Russell), Rachel Floyd (Alvin) and Rebecca Brand; two sons: David Orechwa

(Betty) and Scott Brand (Laura); three granddaughters: Amber, Summer Grace and Sage; and eight grandsons: Mark, Joel, Joshua, Matthew, Oshkin, Bolton, Noah and Tearston. Also survived by one sister: Palma Ann Harrell (Lavell).

Visitation is from 6 - 8pm on Friday, June 3 at the Lewis Funeral Home in Navarre, FL. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, June 4 at 10:30 am at Billory Baptist Church in Navarre, FL.
