Eugene J. "Gene" Becker, 89, of Kampsville, IL, died at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

The WWII Army Air Corps veteran served in Hampstead, England with the 8th Air Force 398 Bomb Group. He was a maintenance worker for the Calhoun Unit 40 School District, retiring after 26 years. He also was a maintenance worker for the Kampsville Archaeology Society and the Calhoun Housing Authority. Gene was a member of the Kampsville Presbyterian Church, where he was active as treasurer, elder, and Sunday school teacher for many years. He was a member of the Hardin American Legion and Alton VFW 1308.

Gene was the son of the late Henry and Lillie (Ansell) Becker. He married Gloria M. Schumann May 12, 1952 in Kampsville and she survives.

Also surviving are one son, one daughter, one sister, four grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Harry Becker and Ansell Becker; a sister, Marguerite Schumann.

Visitation and funeral was held at Kampsville Presbyterian Church in Kampsville with Rev. Richard Thurston officiating. Hanks-Gress Funeral Home in Hardin, IL was in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials were requested to Kampsville Presbyterian Church or family.
