transferred to the 3rd NC Reg as
Lieut. In July,1863 detached to
Gen. Winder at City Point, VA. Later
to Wilm. as Provost Marshal for 6
months. Then trans to Fayetteville
NC as Captain of Co. B 2nd NC
Battalion, known as the Arsenal
Guards. His request for active
service put him in VA for 6
months, but a need to protect
Wilm sent him to Ft Cashwell.
On retreat fm Wilm he was
wounded at Averasboro and left for
dead on the field. Union Doctors
saved him & he was captured and
paroled. In Va he was at all 7
days battles, Fredricksburg
& Sharpsburg where he was wounded.
He suffered several wounds
during service.
