Walter Raymond Dunn
Walter Raymond Dunn, 87, passed away Friday, June 3, 2011, at his residence in Emerald Bay. He was born and raised in Foreman, Ark., where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Jean Kirkland, in 1943.
He attended Texas A&M and served in the Navy during World War II on ships in the Atlantic and Mediterranean.
After the war, they moved to Baytown, where he worked for Humble Oil and Refining Co. (now ExxonMobil). In 1962, he transferred to Alyeska Pipeline Service Co., which took them to California, Japan and Alaska. He retired in 1984, and they moved near Tyler to the Emerald Bay golf community. They loved to golf and travel and enjoyed many years of both.
Walter was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Bonnie Jean Dunn; his parents, Walter and Evelyn Dunn; his brother, James Dunn; and his sister, Margaret Young.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Les Bohn of Tyler; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Kay Dunn of McKinney; grandson, Michael Bohn; granddaughter, Lise Browning and husband Devlin; grandson, Timothy Dunn and wife Erin; granddaughter, Anne Smith and husband Gary; great-grandsons, Dylen and Brayden Smith, and Wyatt and Quinn Browning; and great-granddaughter, Cassidy Dunn.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lloyd James Funeral Home, 1011 E. First St., Tyler.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 6, in Dollarhide Cemetery in Foreman, Ark.
The family would like to thank Walter's caregivers, especially Gale Boykin, as well as the nurses and staff of Hospice of East Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of East Texas or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
