Gladys (Herring) Watkins, 92, of Three Rivers, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003.
She was born March 8, 1911, in Noodle to Clyde Sherman and Ruby (Rosson) Herring. She married Marvin J. Watkins in Robstown in 1930.
Mrs. Watkins was a homemaker, an active member of the First United Methodist Church and a faithful choir member. She has been recognized for reorganizing and operating the Three Rivers Cemetery Association for more than 30 years. She was instrumental in sponsoring a yearly music and arts program in both her home and in local churches.
Mrs. Watkins was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin J. Watkins; a daughter, Judy Watkins Page; her parents, Clyde and Ruby Herring; a sister, Wilma Herring; and a brother, Ollie Herring.
Survivors include one grandson, Clifton Page; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Monday at the Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Three Rivers. The funeral was Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Three Rivers, with the Rev. Bill Duke officiating. Taira Scales sang "His Eyes on a Sparrow," accompanied by Jacky Stroleny as organist. Interment followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeff Page, Ronnie Lee Page Jr., Larry Page, Donald Williams, Juan Salazar, Butch Alvin Streadl and Rod Herring.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Three Rivers or to the Three Rivers Cemetery Association.
