She grew up in Ulen and attended school there, graduating from Ulen High School in 1932. She then moved to Chicago, Ill., and attended cosmetology school there. Laurel married Palmer Brenna at Riverside, Calif., on Sept. 18, 1943. They resided in the Ulen area. In 1973 they moved to Detroit Lakes, where they made their home. Palmer died June 4, 1978. Laurel lived at the Marigold Apartments and most recently at the Park Manor in Detroit Lakes.
Laurel was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. She was also a member of the Ulen VFW Auxillary, the Detroit Lakes Senior Citizens Center and its VIP organization.
She enjoyed reading, cooking and baking, bowling, volunteering, her family and grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, coffee and lunch with her friends.
Laurel is survived by her daughters: Ellen (Ted) Hatlen, Chris Swenson, Susan (Darrell) Brogren; son, John Brenna; 20 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Palmer; son, James; many brothers and sisters; and one great-grandson.
Burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes.
