Samuel Bell was born in Leitersburg District [Washington County, MD], April 22, 1816, the son of Frederick and Maria (Emerick) Bell. He owned the farm east of Leitersburg that is now the property of Julia and Lydia Bell and here he was engaged in farming until 1849, when he removed to Pleasant valley near Weverton.
In 1852 he migrated to the West, locating at Hagerstown, Ind., where he was engaged in farming until his retirement from active business.He married Elizabeth, daughter of Jacob Smith, of Boonsboro, Md.
