Former Anchorage resident Herman "Bud" E. Breeden, 78, died March 1, 2005, at home in Friday Harbor, Wash. A memorial gathering took place March 13 at the Friday Harbor Grange Hall.

Mr. Breeden was born Dec. 10, 1926, in Arkansas City, Kan., to Robert and Amanda (Greeder) Breeden. He was educated in Arkansas City and graduated from Chieftain High School in 1944. Mr. Breeden served in the Merchant Marine during World War II. After the war, he moved to California. Mr. Breeden came to Anchorage in 1960 and was employed as a banker. While in Anchorage, he met Carol Wenholz, and they were married Feb. 25, 1973. In 1977, the couple moved to Friday Harbor, where Mr. Breeden was employed as a dispatcher for the sheriff's office for 11 years before retiring in 1990. His family said: "Bud was a fun-loving yet soft-spoken person who was very charismatic. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed visiting with his neighbors and friends. Bud was also a very hard-working man." Mr. Breeden's interests included traveling, computers, photography, stamp collecting and watching the Mariners. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club. Mr. Breeden was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles Breeden; and brother, Robert Breeden.

He is survived by his wife, Carol of Friday Harbor; daughters and son-in-law, Deborah and Terry Lee of Fremont, Calif., Allyson Chevalier of Friday Harbor, and Kelly Mang of Bellingham, Wash.; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Breeden of Hayward, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Michelle Breeden of Stanwood, Wash.; grandchildren, Paul Holeman, Kenneth and Stacy Lee, Nick and Jennifer Breeden, Ashley, Misty and Chloe Chevalier, Kayleigh, Jordan and Shelby Mang, and Courtnea and Elijah Breeden; and great-grandchildren, Ryan and Noah Holeman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the EMT Association, P.O. Box 1234, Friday Harbor, WA 98250; or American Cancer Society, 728 134th St. SW, Suite 101, Everett, WA 98204.
