A caring, gentle, kind soul has passed on to reunite with her beloved parents, grandparents, brothers, sister, and a
granddaughter who died suddenly within two months of her marriage.
Gladys Albertha Brown Babcock, formerly of Annabella and Monroe, passed away peacefully June 1, 2011, in Escondido, Calif., at 94 years of age.
She was born in Big Timber, Mont., March 5, 1917. She was the second daughter of Clifford Ulysses "CU" and Florence Albertha Curtis Brown. She had four brothers and three sisters. On her mother's side she traced her ancestry to the early pioneer days of the LDS church and was a member of the Utah Daughters of Pioneers.
After her schooling in Montana she moved to Seal Beach,
Calif.,and while living with her grandparents met and married Wilfred Henry "Dutch" Babcock Sept. 22, 1940. They
had five children together, later divorcing. Although they raised their children in the San Diego area, she later moved to Utah and lived for many years in both Annabella and Monroe.
Gladys was an active member of the LDS church and over the years served in many capacities from chorister to primary stake board; but by far, her favorite calling was as primary president - a position she held for an unusually long time. She also served in the Texas Houston East LDS Mission.
Gladys is survived by her children, Richard Henry "Rick" Babcock, Annabella; Lynn Edward (Tish), Mount Vernon, Wash.; Steven Newman (Randi), Colorado Springs, Colo.; Belva Rae (David) Stone, Poway, Calif.; Vivian Victoria "Vicci," Las Vegas. Also surviving are nine
grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; brother Jack (Patricia) Brown, Las Vegas; sisters, Sannee Palmer, Charleston, S.C.; Rosemary Hall, Salt Lake City.
Gladys is predeceased by parents; three brothers, Ralph, Buster and Lawrence; sister, Josephine Wilber; and granddaughter, Laraleigh Babcock Jerdon.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 11, at 11 a.m., in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel, 50 South 100 West, Richfield. A viewing will be held Saturday morning at the mortuary from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Graveside dedication to follow.
Interment will be in the Monroe City Cemetery. Funeral directors, Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
