Jane was born Jenny Christina Gustafson on 8/16/1920 on Spring Garden St. in Philadelphia. She was given the name Hull when her mother married Ed Hull. Through the course of her young life, along with her two brothers, she was shuffled from one foster home into another. Around 1928 the children were living in Foxchase, PA as permanent residents of Nelson's Camp. Jane and her brothers lived with a Mrs. Pierce from 1929 to about 1935... first at 2131 N. 18th St. and then at 2084 East Cumberland St. Jane then was moved to N. 9th St. in Oaklane and then to Alcott St. During these years she attended Claghorn Grammar School, Wagner Junior High School in Olney, and Frankfort High School. By 1935 the Hull children passed into the custody of the Philadelphia municipal courts. She stayed at Frankfort until 10th grade when she entered the Convent of St. John the Baptist in Rolston (Morris Co.) NJ and stayed there until 1937. During her stay at the convent she was baptized 12/18/1936 and given the Christian name of Jane. She left the convent in 1937 and began working at St. Frances De Sales Rectory in Barrington, NJ. Between 1937 and 1940 she was living with the Wagner's in Cheltenham and then with Dr. Ricker, also in Cheltenham. While living at these two places she worked as a housemaid. She and Edmund Joseph Powell were married 4/27/1940. They lived in the Cramer Hill section of Camden, NJ and raised 6 children. They would eventually move out to Moorestown, NJ. Ed died in 1988 in Camden. Jane moved to the converted schoolhouse where she lived for the rest of her life.

Even though she wasn't an Irwin... she was one of the proudest members of the Irwin Reunion Families.
