Ernest Waitman "Ernie" Crites, age 89 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Monday morning, May 30, 2011 at the E.A.Hawse Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Baker, WV. Born June 13, 1921 in Hardy Co., WV he was the son of the late Eugene"Huge"Crites,Sr. & Ida (Crites) Crites. His wife of 61 years, Thelma Lee (Southerly) Crites preceded him in death in May 2000. A granddaughter, four brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.

He was a member of the C.C.C. stationed at Cacapon State Park near Berkeley Springs, WV; a member of the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church; a past member of the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Company-46; an owner/operator of a local restaurant for many years and a salesman for Electrolux Vacuum cleaners for almost 50 years.

Surviving is a son, Jim W. Crites (Sue) of Petersburg, WV; two daughters, Wanda Shockey (Raymond) of Moorefield, WV & Bonnie Koontz (Malin) of Petersburg, WV; four sisters, Margel Shockey of Old Fields, WV, Gaynell Parsons of Dorcas, WV, Iona Bergdoll of Moorefield, WV & Melva Wallace of Alexandria, VA; twelve grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren and seventeen great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington St. with Rev. Jay Parkins & Rev. Nick Yurcaba officiating. Interment will follow at the South Branch Memorial Gardens, Petersburg, WV. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Co-46, 114 Kuykendall Lane, Moorefield, WV 26836 or the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Co., 49 S Main St, Petersburg, WV 26847.
