Long Prairie Argus. July 21, 1904, p. 1:3. Death of Mrs. Wm. Petrie. Martha, the young wife of William Petrie, passed away last Friday morning at 3:15 o'clock at the home of Henry Petrie, just west of town, after an illness of several weeks. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon, Rev. C.H. Fleming officiating, and the remains were interred in the cemetery here. Deceased lacked only three days of being twenty years of age and leaves two sons one aged two years and the youngest only six months old, her parents being Milton Schofner and Eliza Crider. About five weeks ago she and her husband were camping at Lake Latimer, where she was taken sick suddenly with what was thought to be stomach trouble. She vomited a great deal and after reaching home she became worse and the doctor was called, who was of the opinion that she was poisoned in some way. A week or so before her death she was taken with pneumonia, which in her weakened condition, proved fatal. All that human hands could do was done to save her life. Her maiden name was Martha Sofner and she was married three years ago in September to William Petrie at Sebeka. A couple of weeks ago she was taken from her home in Little Sauk to Henry Petrie's, a mile west of the village, in order that she might be nearer to medical assistance. The husband has the sympathy of the entire community in the loss of his young wife. Mr. Petrie's two sisters came up from Melrose Saturday and attended the funeral. They returned home Monday.
