My grandfather was working at the zinc mines near Pitcher. My grandmother was also living there with him. Baby Clifford pasted away in July. They wanted to bury him in Pumkin Center with the rest of the family but becouse he was not embalmed and it was a very hot July, my grandmother said that my grandfather told her they had to stop at Chewey to bury him. She didn't want to but in the end she agreed to bury him near my grandfathers sister in Chewey Polly Bird. My grandmother had to hold his casket on her lap all the way from Pitcher to Chewey. I cannot began to think how I would deal with having to do somethimg like that. My grand parents were very strong people.
