Mrs. Catherine Whitaker died at Pleasantville on May 27, 1888, age 81.

Catherine was the daughter of Peter Mock, Jr. and Catherine Carn. She was married to Michael (Merkle/Mark) Whitaker. Merkle was Michael's mother's maiden name.
Michael left Catherine before 1850, moved to Ohio, went by the name of either Merkle or Mark. Mark is the name on his headstone.
Catherine and Michael had 9 children:
Joseph Whitaker
Henry Whitaker - enlisted 31 Aug 1861 - Pvt in Co. A - PA 88th Inf. - mustered out 30 Nov 1862.
